Lords Spotlight | Moaning Myrtle

Introducing Moaning Myrtle!

The team of old school friends are one of many long-standing teams playing in Lords’ social sports competition. As they enter their 12th year playing mixed netball at Lords, we chatted to them about how they started and what keeps them coming back each season.

Lords was a natural choice for the team as its central location provided a great opportunity for them to stay in touch while studying at different universities across Perth. Over the years, the team has evolved with new players filling in and becoming permanent players. What started as a mix of school mates, has now become a blend of family, old friends and new friends. Josh and Shelby are the two remaining original team members, and tell us finding fill-ins and getting new players on board has been great to meet new people and make friends.

Moaning Myrtle credit the friendly Lords staff and great umpires as why they choose to come back each season. When asked to sum up their experience at Lords in one word, Josh says ‘sweaty’!

And the meaning behind the name? A rough morning after a big night out for one unnamed teammate was the inspiration behind the longstanding team name. We're told their unfortunate predicament bore some close resemblance to the wailing ghost from Harry Potter, Moaning Myrtle.

The team have had a strong start to the Autumn/Winter season with two big wins under their belt already, and we're excited to see them push for a maiden grand final win this year. Here's to many more years of Moaning Myrtle magic at Lords!

If you know someone who would be a great Lords Spotlight, please nominate them by sending an email to memberships@subiaco.wa.gov.au, or chat to our friendly reception team.
