Recreation Centre entry

A family affair

A family affair

After years of watching their friends and family run the Chevron City to Surf for Activ, this time it’s Paul and Linda’s turn – and they’re bringing their granddaughter along for the ride!
Long-time Lords attendees and enthusiastic members of Team Lords, Paul and Linda Bynon will be walking alongside their six year old granddaughter Stella as they join the crowds tackling the 4km stretch to City Beach next Sunday.
“It’s our first time participating in the City to Surf,” Paul said.
“I’m not concerned though. We do quite a bit of walking regularly, so we haven’t had to train up for the event. Maybe we should have signed up for the 12km!”
One of Linda’s key motivators is her FitBit, and she rarely misses her daily goal of 10,000 steps.
Paul, on the other hand, discovered his love of walking after he retired and found he was spending hours walking during a round of golf. However, this passion hasn’t extended to running.
“Running is not in my DNA, quite frankly,” he laughed.
“I’m definitely not a jogger, although my daughter and son-in-law both run triathlons.”
It was while watching family run the City to Surf in previous years that both Paul and Linda developed a real love of the event and the vibrancy it brings to the community.
“It’s such a good community day and it’s an incredible effort that’s all done for charity. Even just watching the race, you see so many people you know all getting involved or walking past.”
The Chevron City to Surf for Activ takes place on Sunday 26 August, with registrations still being accepted in the 4km, 12km, 21km and 42km categories.
